It's time to color your world green ... and ring in the year with the color of growth, renewal and prosperity. After a year of tangoing with tangerine, the Pantone Color Institute has announced its latest color vibe — emerald green. From neckties to nail polish, from eyeglasses to elegant gowns, this lush color is sure to rejuvenate both fashion and home interiors in the new year ahead.
“Green is the most abundant hue in nature,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “The human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum.”
And we've been fascinated with the color green throughout history, she adds. “Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today's complex world.”
Indeed, Eiseman finds that green is the perfect “crossover color.” In “The Color Answer Book” she explains that green is the color inevitably connected to nature and growth. “As the background to all of the colors in the spectrum, green in its many variations is Mother Nature's most perfect neutral.”
So think not to fool with Mother Nature, right? “When nature arranges flowers, green is the one color that appears in virtually every combination,” says Eiseman. “Nature's greens are among the most versatile of hues. The great outdoors is filled with green foliage, trees and grass.”
And fashion designers are taking up the green cause, whipping up their own wizardry of emerald drama. From Tracy Reese to Nanette Lepore to Oscar de la Renta, green is growing to be a lush trend in the spring 2013 collections.
