Fate opens window at McAlester plant

McALESTER — The seasonal start of homeremodeling season and an anticipated burst of improvement projects spurred by federal tax credits are creating new jobs at an Oklahoma window plant.

Application forms for jobs at Simonton Windows are available at the plant — 401 Steven Taylor Blvd., McAlester. Applications also are available at Workforce Oklahoma offices.

The Simonton Windows facility in McAlester, which last year had to shed jobs, "is looking to hire from 20 to 30 people,” company spokeswoman Kathy Ziprik said.

More favorable economic conditions are also behind Simonton’s decision to recall 110 employees who had been laid off at its manufacturing plants in West Virginia and Illinois, she said.

The McAlester facility primarily produces vinyl frame windows for the Midwest market. The plant employs 275, plant manager Scott Sheffield said, including 10 workers rehired after they were cut last November.
