Those who follow Oklahoma State will quickly recognize Joe DeForest’s name in the first installment of Sports Illustrated’s five-part investigative series on the Cowboy football program.

Here are some others connected to the program mentioned in the report:

Kay Norris

Former player Seymore Shaw says “Mama Norris,” who ran Heritage Hall inside Gallagher-Iba Arena, provided money to him and overpaid for jobs on multiple occasions. His allegations include being paid $700 to clean floorboards of rental houses and $400 to take a Christmas tree out of her attic. “I was there about an hour,” Shaw said. Norris died of lung cancer in 2006.

John Talley

Former player Brad Girtman alleges the area Fellowship of Christian Athletes director paid him $1,500 to $2,000 every two weeks to work on his ranch during the summer, and former quarterback Aso Pogi claims Talley allowed him to live on his ranch rent-free for a summer. Shaw also said Talley paid $100 for short speaking engagements. Talley said he has paid players for work on his ranch and that he cleared speaking fees and hourly employment through the school’s compliance office. OSU compliance director Kevin Fite disputes that, saying those speaking engagements were not cleared through his office and that two of his employees have notified Talley that he cannot pay for speaking engagements. Fite also said that Talley paying in cash for work on his ranch is “not something (Fite) is comfortable with.”
