Feds relent on Perkins bank’s display of Christian-themed items

A week after federal bank examiners told officials of Payne County Bank in Perkins, OK, that they must remove Christian-themed items from their lobby and website, the displays have been restored.

PERKINS — Christ is back in time for Christmas at Payne County Bank.

Federal regulators Friday reversed an earlier demand that bank officials remove all Christian-themed items from the bank’s website and lobby. The action came after bank officials, who complied with last week’s initial order, requested a clarification of the policy cited by a bank examiner.

The bank publishes a daily Bible verse on its website and bank employees display crosses and other Christian-themed items in their workplace, bank President Len Kinder said.
