NEW YORK — Train and subway security was raised Wednesday after a warning al-Qaida was contemplating a transit attack during the holiday season.

An internal memo says the FBI has got a "plausible but unsubstantiated” report that al-Qaida in late September may have discussed a subway attack.

A federal law enforcement official said there’s no indication anyone involved is in the U.S.

Department of Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke said the transit warning was issued "out of an abundance of caution going into this holiday season.”
