City apartment fire injures one

A 3-alarm fire at an apartment complex early Saturday in northwest Oklahoma City sent one resident to the hospital and left as many as 44 apartments without electricity. The fire department was called at 5:17 a.m. to the Chateau DeVille complex in the 2300 block of NW 22, according to statements from the American Red Cross of Central and Western Oklahoma and fire officials. “They had heavy smoke and flames upon arrival,” Deputy Fire Chief Marc Woodard said. One resident was taken to the hospital by the Emergency Medical Services Authority, Woodard said. The fire was out by 5:40 a.m. Damage to the building is estimated at $45,000, and a cause is not yet known, he said. Five apartments were affected by the fire and an additional 44 did not have electricity following the blaze, according to a Red Cross statement. The Red Cross opened a shelter for displaced residents and provided food and drinks for about 50 firefighters at the scene.
