— Two veteran police officers were arrested Thursday afternoon after a six-month investigation, according to a news release from Altus Police Department.

Officer Russell Hansel, a 17-year veteran of the department, was arrested on complaints of grand larceny and conspiracy to commit grand larceny.

Officer Jose Arce, an 11-year veteran, was arrested on a complaint of conspiracy to commit a felony.

No further details were released.

“The actions of these two officers have placed a dark cloud over our police department,” Chief Tim Murphy said in the news release. “Corruption at any level will never be acceptable. Society holds police officers to a higher expectation of behavior and conduct. Although the investigation lasted many months, the end result was two police officers facing felony charges.”

The investigation was conducted in conjunction with the FBI.

The case has been sent to the Jackson County district attorney.

Both Hansel and Arce are in custody at the Jackson County jail. Their bail has not been set yet.
