Fiery crash in Ottawa County proves fatal for driver

The driver of a car died after the car hit a tree and exploded in Ottawa County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported. The name of the driver had not been released Thursday evening.

The driver of a car that crashed into a tree, caught fire and exploded died in Ottawa County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

The name of the driver had not been released Thursday evening.

The crash was about 7:25 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 44, about 8 miles east of Miami.

The driver died at the scene, the patrol reported.

The car went off the roadway for an unknown reason, hit an embankment, went through a fence then hit a tree.

The car caught fire and exploded, the patrol reported.

It is unknown if the driver wore a seat belt.
