Edmond Doggie Dash raises money for orphanage in India

Doggie Dash, a 5k run and walk, was to help Edmond resident Valerie Howard raise money to work in an orphanage in India. Howard plans to leave in January for her unpaid internship.

EDMOND — Owners and their dogs turned out to help Edmond resident Valerie Howard raise money to travel to Visakhapatnam, India, more commonly known as Vizag, to help children in an orphanage.

Howard came up with the idea for Doggie Dash, a 5k run and walk for runners, walkers and their pets, to raise money for her unpaid internship over the next couple of years. The event was held over the weekend.

Howard plans to leave the United States in January.

“I thought it would be a community event that would be fun and different,” said Howard, a student at Southeast Oklahoma State University in Durant. She is studying political science.
