Edmond residents don't have to ration water, officials say

The city of Edmond has a contract with Oklahoma City to purchase bulk water. Kris Neifing, Edmond water resources superintendent, said the bulk purchases only happen during hot days in the summer when people are watering.

“There will be no rationing as long as we are not getting bulk water from Oklahoma City,” Neifing said.

Edmond is currently using between 7 million and 8 million gallons of water a day. Water usage reaches 25 million gallons in the peak time during the summer, Neifing said.

The city gets most of its water from Arcadia Lake and 56 water wells, which are all full at this time, Neifing said.

Edmond buys an average of 60,000 gallons of water a day from Oklahoma City to serve the Olde North Village housing addition, off Memorial Road and west of Boulevard. Neifing said that small amount of water does not fall under any rationing program.

“We always ask people to be wise about their water usage,” Neifing said.
