MOORE — A junior high student was arrested Tuesday morning after school officials found knives and a pellet gun in his locker, police said.
Ryan Young, 14, was arrested on a felony complaint of possession of a prohibited weapon and was taken to the Cleveland County juvenile detention center.
Moore police were notified after the Highland East Junior High principal and a school resource officer found weapons in Young's locker, Sgt. Jeremy Lewis said.
The weapons found were an Airsoft gun and four knives that were large enough to be considered illegal, Lewis said.
Airsoft guns are replicas of real weapons and fire plastic pellets.
Students told school administrators Tuesday that they had seen a student with weapons on a school bus Monday and that the student took the weapons to school, Lewis said.
Lewis said no threats were made against the school, and police are still waiting to interview Young.
Moore Public Schools Superintendent Susan Pierce said she was unable to say if the student had been expelled or suspended from school because it was a “student confidentiality issue,” but said the school district “handled everything according to policy and procedure.”
