Several schools are cleaning up damage left by two rounds of severe storms that swept through the Oklahoma City area this week.

Severe thunderstorms swept through the Oklahoma City area Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, bringing flooding, damaging winds and softball-sized hail.

Several buildings at Oklahoma Christian University sustained roof and skylight damage during the storms, said OC spokeswoman Risa Forrester. Several vehicles parked on campus also were damaged, she said.

University officials are in the process of assessing the damage, she said. Although the university doesn't have a cost estimate, Forrester said the storm left significant damage.

“We're expecting a seven-figure insurance claim,” she said.

Edmond Public Schools Associate Superintendent Bret Towne said several windows at Boulevard Academy were broken. Windscreens at one of the district's tennis courts were blown off.

Towne said several buses and support vehicles were damaged. The district is evaluating roofs of buildings for any damage, he said.

The Deer Creek School District has damage to roofs, skylights and windows, as well as rooftop air conditioning units and district vehicles, said district spokeswoman Lenis DeRieux. The district didn't have cost estimates as of Thursday, DeRieux said.

Most of the damage occurred at the district's main campus near NW 206 and N MacArthur Blvd.

University of Oklahoma spokeswoman Catherine Bishop said the Norman campus and the OU Health Sciences Center have minor damage associated with high winds and heavy rain. Privately-owned hangars at OU's Max Westheimer Airport in Norman sustained damage, she said.
