ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — An Oklahoma couple has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after narcotics trafficking and firearms convictions.
Prosecutors say 52-year-old Rafael Goxcon-Chagal and 36-year-old Maria Vianey Medina-Copete were sentenced Wednesday.
Goxcon-Chagal will be on supervised release for five years after completing his prison sentence while Medina-Copete will be deported.
Authorities say Medina-Copete also was convicted of re-entering the country without authorization after having previously been deported from California to Mexico in October 2007.
A federal jury convicted the Tulsa couple last August.
They were arrested in June 2011 by a New Mexico State Police officer after a traffic stop on Interstate 40 in the Albuquerque area.
A search of their vehicle turned up more than a kilogram of methamphetamine and a pistol wrapped in a towel.
