— Margarett Parman will become Oklahoma's first female sheriff in four years, Blaine County voters decided.

Parman, the Republican candidate, defeated Democrat Tony Almaguer by a 2,058-1,737 vote, with all precincts reporting.

Parman has served as Blaine County's undersheriff for the past five years. She started her law enforcement career in 1976 at the Chickasaw Police Department.

Tuesday night, Parman said she is happy with the service the sheriff's office currently provides Blaine County and doesn't plan to make any major changes.

“That's my goal — to continue to provide good service,” Parman said.

Another female running for sheriff was not successful. Cynthia LeGrand, an independent candidate in Cimarron County, lost to Democrat Bob White.

Voters in every county in the Oklahoma City metro area decided who will be the county's top law officer the next four years.

In Cleveland County, incumbent Sheriff Joe Lester was handily defeating challenger Kelly Owings, an independent, as of 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Lester, a Republican, was first elected in 2008 after serving as the head of the University of Oklahoma Police Department for 12 years. He also worked for the Tulsa Police Department from 1969-91, eventually retiring from the department.

With 51 of 83 precincts reporting, Lester was ahead by a vote of 34,238 to 14,380.
