BENNINGTON

Shooting leaves 2 dead

Two men were shot to death about 2 p.m. Thursday at a Bryan County home along U.S. 70, about four miles east of Bennington, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. The victims' names were not released. One man died at the scene, and the second man died at a hospital. No arrests had been made Thursday evening, but a man was being held for questioning and witnesses were being interviewed.

Teen will be honored

An Oklahoman is among five American Indian youths being honored in a program called “Champions For Change.” The Aspen Institute's Center for Native American Youth said in a statement Thursday the program is meant to promote hope and leadership opportunities. The participants are: Cierra Fields, 14, of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma; Vance Home Gun, 19, of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes in Montana; Joaquin Gellegos, 22, of the Jicarilla Apache Nation and Pueblo of Santa Ana in Colorado; Sarah Schilling, 18, of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians in Michigan; and Dahkota Brown, 15, of the Wilton Miwok of California. They head to Washington for a May 4 reception for the National Congress of American Indians.
