Man dies in northeast Oklahoma City house fire

Lloyd Brunson, 84, died in a house fire in northeast Oklahoma City Tuesday evening, police said.

An 84-year-old man died in a house fire in northeast Oklahoma City Tuesday evening, authorities said.

Lloyd Brunson died at the scene, police Lt. Trevor Taylor said. Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire, but nothing suspicious was found at the scene Tuesday, Taylor said.

About 5:30 p.m., firefighters arrived and found flames coming from the front of the house, 1527 NE 20, fire Battalion Chief Kirk Wright said.

Brunson used a wheelchair, and security bars at the door caused firefighters to have to climb through a window and pull him from the home, Wright said.

Neighbor Leonard Roberson was walking down the street to meet his wife at a friend's house when he saw the fire and called 911.

“I'd seen the flames in the window (blocked with an air conditioner unit), so I came around this way and ran up the (ramped walkway) trying to go into the house, but the heat was too much. I couldn't go in,” Roberson said.

“I tried my best,” he said.
