Oklahoma rodeo star Bobby Griswold was charged Tuesday with practicing veterinary medicine without a license. Griswold, 41, of Geary, is accused in a felony count of doing illegal dental work on a horse March 4. He also is accused in two misdemeanor counts of illegal possession of two veterinary drugs. He is the first to be charged under a new law that makes horse dentistry a felony unless the work is done by or supervised by a licensed veterinarian. Since his arrest, horse owners and equine dentists have lobbied for a change in the law, and legislators are considering it. A prosecutor said the case against Griswold will be pursued even if the law is changed. He is unlikely to face any time in prison. Griswold has called the new law absurd. Griswold is considered one of the nation’s top professional saddle bronc riders. His second job has been as an equine dentist.
