A group that claims to be open to sexual fetishes has canceled plans to hold a Valentine's Day-themed party at the Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library, 2201 SW 134.
Pioneer Library System spokesman Gary Kramer said the group made an online reservation to use a public meeting room Saturday for what was described as a crafts party. “A Littles' Valentines Day Party” encouraged attendees to bring safety scissors, glue, glitter and doilies to make valentines.
A link to the social networking website Tabu was provided with the reservation. The website invitation specified “public appropriate” attire but encouraged people who enjoyed “age play” to dress up as babies, juveniles or toddlers.
Kramer said any group has a right to reserve a meeting room at the library. Anyone meeting at the library must adhere to library rules, which includes a dress code and prohibitions against behavior that would cause a disturbance, he said.
“I don't know what kind of party they planned, but if they caused a disturbance or showed up dressed inappropriately they would be asked to leave. That would apply to any group meeting at the library, or any group protesting someone else meeting there.”
Some people emailed and called the library to say they did not think the library was an appropriate place for the group to meet.
The group canceled its reservation, but Kramer said he doesn't know if it was because of negative publicity.
A phone call to a contact number listed by the organization was not returned.
