A Western Heights football player lost part of a leg after he was hit by a car Saturday night during a fight at a party in a southwest Oklahoma City trailer park, witnesses said.
Austin Beery, 16, was in good condition Monday at OU Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Police were called about 11:40 p.m. Saturday to the trailer park at 7901 S Council, Master Sgt. Gary Knight said. One juvenile had been hit by a car on the street outside a trailer where a party had been going on, Knight said.
Witnesses said some of the teens had alcohol.
Neighbor Payton Howard said he was getting something out of his pickup when he heard yelling inside the trailer where about two dozen teenagers were having a party.
Howard said one teenager came out of the home and was yelling obscenities at the other teens inside.
“He was trying to egg the fight on, trying to instigate,” Howard said. “He went up and punched the window of the house. I heard the glass break.”
Another neighbor, Anthony Vince, said several teenagers got into a car as a large group came out of the house and surrounded the vehicle. One person got out of the car and was beaten by some of the teens, he said.
Howard said the boy who was driving the car put it in reverse and gunned it, nearly hitting some of the teenagers. He then put the car in drive and tried to run over the teens who were scattered around the street and the yard, Howard said.
