Kurt: am sure no one meant to insult the 6th graders LOL
Larry, Oklahoma City - Sep 7, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Name: Fine. Not my first choice but perfectly acceptable.
Colors: So so. Not what I would have chosen, but probably could be made to work with a cool logo.
Logo: Absolutly awful. It looks generic, and nothing about it is suggestive of the team name.
Kurt, Oklahoma City - Sep 6, 2008 at 5:10 pm
The people who are saying the logo looks like it was designed by a 6th graider aren't giving enough credit to 6th graiders, most of whom probably could have designed a better logo than that.
Kurt, Oklahoma City - Sep 6, 2008 at 5:06 pm
"The logo is to much WNBA style." Took a look at their logos and most are better
Larry, Oklahoma City - Sep 6, 2008 at 4:11 am
I am again commiting on the font used for Thunder. It is juvenile and needs more emphasis. Also the logo does too. I'm a retired art teacher and see more into this than the advertising company! I sure hope it is a work in "progress."

The name is fine I mean we are big league now. Even though the team will go through rough times, the time is now and its time to start supporting our first venture into major league sports. GO THUNDER!
Thomas, Lawton - Sep 5, 2008 at 7:23 am
Like the name OK, don't care about the logo. Basically, I'm so indifferent to the whole affair that Big from Seattle's stupid comment doesn't make me mad. Big, I've been there. Thank God you're not representative of the natives of that beautiful city.
Jan, Oklahoma City - Sep 4, 2008 at 5:45 pm
First off, all you Seattle Trolls, can go suck down a 10 dollar Latte and then shove the cup where the sun does not shine. I like the colors, i like the name. But i am going to have to say the logo is a little boring.
Kevin, Oklahoma City - Sep 4, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Still a few weeks until the new Thunder unis and mascot are unveiled. I have a feeling the unis will look similar to the Hawks' new duds, but with their new "Tropical Mike and Ike" candy colors.
What do you all think about the "Dogs", or "Thunder Dogs", as a mascot? Check out my logo design at:

I am absolutely stoked about having an NBA Team. I will go to a bunch of games. However, mediocrity is laced with contentment. Don't just be happy to have a team. If you want to become big league, you have to be the big league in all facets. I can handle the name Thunder. But to overcome such a mediocre name, we need to be blown away with the logo and colors. That did not happen. Don't assume that because some people are geniuses in one field that they are also geniuses in others. Please Clay, lets do a logo contest or something that will make us buy and wear the logo not just because it is our team but because it is extremely "cool" as well. I am not rushing down to buy some merchandise like I thought I would. You won't find a bigger OKC Thunder fan than me but lets do this right, lets do it "Big League"! There is still time to correct this. GO THUNDER!
Steve - Sep 4, 2008 at 12:46 pm
I really do not care for the name or the logo. I think both are very simple and lame. Even though I think we could have picked a better name, I will still wish the team the best of luck.

What is the big deal? They act like this was a deep, dark secret that has finally been revealed! Thunder was
talked about months ago. I would have been surprised if
it had been anything else.
Janice, Norman - Sep 4, 2008 at 11:42 am
Great logo? and the name, oh and don't forget the sky blue colors...you guys deserve everything you are getting, don't forget this is a business and not for the fans, enjoy a great future of losing season after losing season
greg, Bothell - Sep 4, 2008 at 10:48 am
I can't believe we had to wait until September for that logo.
Joshua, Moore - Sep 4, 2008 at 9:40 am
Its sooooo cool...! Our logo is a triangle and a basketball...! We will be the envy of all the fans. And think of all the PUNDERS...! (Thunder Puns) Thunderdome, Thunderwear, Thunderheads....all the other teams will be soooo jealous of how cool we are. (File/Hyperbole/Off/Enter)
K.L., warr acres - Sep 4, 2008 at 9:14 am
Why isn't there any big and tall merchandise? Simple question...
bubba, Oklahoma City - Sep 4, 2008 at 12:23 am
Sorry. The logo actually incorporates elements from the New Jersey Nets' (shield), Washington Wizards (points shooting out of logo), and Cleveland Cavaliers (primary colors). No originality. I agree with everyone else. They have to fix this.
John, Oklahoma City - Sep 3, 2008 at 11:42 pm
Like the name. Dislike the logo: It's a cross between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Washington Wizards. Dislike the colors: Blue, red, orange, yellow, black. Seriously? Thought black and gold would have been pretty cool. Glad those at Leadership Square purchased a lot of merchandise today, because I probably won't.
John, Oklahoma City - Sep 3, 2008 at 11:36 pm
I am so disapointed in this logo. If you look at the OKC logo along side the other NBA logos it just looks plain and unprofessional. Any one in Oklahoma could sit down and draw that logo. Clay should really go back to the drawing board with this logo!!!!! We had an opportunity to make a big splash and get some excitement around this brand. We are not off to a good start. I am extremely dissapointed!!!
JON, NORMAN - Sep 3, 2008 at 9:49 pm
I can deal with Thunder. But the logo and colors are weak, it looks like the person who designed it was the same person who came up with the OKC Blazers Logo back in 1992. The Retro look doesn't cut it.

They should have chosen a name that better represents the great state of Oklahoma. Thunder? Not even close. I'm from Indiana where the thunder is just a loud as in Oklahoma and guess what? Indiana averages a lot more rain and thunderstorms than Oklahoma every year. So do many other places. I'll still cheer for the team but they really dropped the ball on this one!!!
Daren, Wichita - Sep 3, 2008 at 8:13 pm
wayne, Goldsby - Sep 3, 2008 at 7:41 pm
This is so uncreative and boring. Everything from the name to the logo to the colors. And please...having thunder playing over he speakers during the intro? What is this? A community theater production? Oklahoma has a rich heritage is exploration (we have the most astronauts) and independent spirit. Thunder is simply a lot of noise and doesn't occur during clear blue skies and cloudless sunsets - sorry CB - but if you spent $10 on that joke, you got ripped off. How disappointing. I mean really...with all the money that has been thrown at this thing, this is the best the owners could come up with?? really???
wayne, Goldsby - Sep 3, 2008 at 7:35 pm
I do like the name, there is alot that can be done with it image wise. But, what is up with the colors and the logo? They have no relationship to the name whatsoever. With so many options out there for something "Thunder" related, ie Bison, Thor, and this is what they come up with? If you watch the video of the press conference, notice that the only people cheering and clapping are the people on the stage. I certainly did not hear anything close to a roar of approval for the logo. All that being said, I still have to believe that the owners are smart enough to take some criticism and will fix what needs fixin.
Wade, Fay - Sep 3, 2008 at 7:25 pm
Hey Phil, I'll take your date to pick seats.. mine's not until the 9th, if yours is earlier.. let me know, I'll take it.
K, Edmond - Sep 3, 2008 at 7:17 pm
There were tons of leaks on NBA.com Web sites, which were quickly erased. I can't imagine David Stern and Clay Bennett are happy about that.
Brian, Oklahoma City - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Brian, considering the sheer amount of interest this news generated it would have been nearly impossible to keep it completely under wraps until the final announcement. Leaks were bound to happen, especially with the manufacture of merchandise taking place in advance. So while I think management OK'ed a bad logo, I can't blame them for the leaks.
Isaac, Piedmont - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:54 pm
Thunder I can understand and get used to. It will be hard when referring to a singular player (for example, you can call Kobe Bryant a Laker and Chris Paul a Hornet, but what do you call Kevin Durant? "A Thunder" doesn't sound right), but it's certainly much better than Energy or Wind. The logo and colors are pretty awful, though. The state flag's blue represents a clear Oklahoma sky, and the orange and gold in the team's colors represent a sunset. What do these have to do with thunder? You don't associate a clear blue sky with storms. What happened to the idea of using black and metallic gold? That would have worked well with the name. Also, the font is rather bland. Overall I'd call these very poor choices on the designers' parts.
Maybe I'll just start calling them the Thunder Barons and hope it catches on.
Isaac, Piedmont - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:50 pm
I'm so disappointed with the logo and name I am seriously considering cancelling my season tickets. This is a total hicktown embarrassment!
Phil, Oklahoma City - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:48 pm
It appears that since the official announcement, nba.com/thunder, has actually crashed. Not a good way to spread the excitement of the team name.
Anyway.
I don't have an opinion about the team name. You can't please everybody all of the time. My issue, however, is the team couldn't manage to keep the secret. There were too many leaks, which, in my opinion, shows reflects poorly on management. I hope this isn't a sign of the how management will run the team.
Brian, Oklahoma City - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:43 pm
If this is the primary logo.... even worse.
brandon, houston - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:30 pm
CB said this is the primary logo, and "derivative" logos are forthcoming...
Usually the following logos are smaller and less detailed, not sure how bad those will look considering how badly detailed this logo is.
Christopher, Oklahoma City - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:28 pm
Deacon is right about Thor! Hahaha
http://newsok.com/article/3082682
Christopher, Oklahoma City - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:26 pm
Like the name. AC/DC intro was cool. Logo? If any of you nimrods watched the press conference, CB said this is the primary logo, and "derivative" logos are forthcoming...ie-thundering buffalo will be the real logo when jerseys are revealed. The logo revealed today is likely the patch that will be worn on the uniforms. The owners are masters at making money. The real logo is coming at end of the month, with the jerseys, but they had to get team name & colors out this week before people a) lose interest b/c its football season, and b) before folks go look at their seating chart for season tickets and c) to make initial $$ before season starts. Everyone just needs to "simma down now" ...all is well. The cool logo with thundering buffalo is coming soon. Way to go, Clay !!Way to go OKC! Can't wait to play Seattle next seaso....DOH!! Oh, wait, you tree huggers don't have team. Almost forgot. "And the Thunder Rolls"....
Mark, Oklahoma City - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:22 pm
One positive about Thunder, currently Marvel Comics is revamping the Thor title, and guess where Thor lives? His home, Asgard, is floating over Oklahoma.
Deacon, Oklahoma City - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:20 pm
As for negative connotations, the headline for the name announcement was listed on a news site just under a headline for the hurricane. "Thunder arrives!" and then a story about people being forced from their homes.
Deacon, Oklahoma City - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Thunder is basically the same name as Sonics: a loud noise in the sky. Why not the OKC Beerfarts?
Deacon, Oklahoma City - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:15 pm
The logo needs an immediate change. Sorry, it looks like the kids who are wearing the shirts on that stage drew it up!
Christopher, Oklahoma City - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:11 pm
About the logo, what does this have to do with Thunder?
"Team chairman Clay Bennett said the team colors will be blue, red and orange -- blue to coincide to with the main color of Oklahoma's state flag and red and orange to reflect the colors of the sunset.
"
Christopher, Oklahoma City - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Riley - Barons (only 1 r) was dismissed since it really had some negative connotations with Oil Barons, Robber Barons, etc. A cool name in and of itself, but it left open a lot of criticism. Same thing with Outlaws. I don't mind Thunder as a name, but as for the logo, I am thUNDERwhelmed.
lanez, Edmond - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:06 pm
LOL. That name stinks. The logo stinks. Just like your team and your featureless, flat, boring city. Hmmm. A much better name/logo is the SEATTLE SUPERSONICS. Thieves. Hey, I'm not bitter. I'll enjoy watching you lose year after year. Clay Bennett stinks. Durrrrr! I'm Clay Bennett and I'm an an Okie. Durrrrr! When Kevin Durant says, "Hey, Waterboy, get me some water!" He'd better watch out because everyone in the stands will be chucking water bottles at him! Lol.
Big, Seattle - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:05 pm
It could have been worse - it could have been a name Mary came up with. Though it would have been funny to have some crazy lady who spits out stupid names as the mascot. Or maybe it could have the troll guy "from Yukon". As a mascot he could go through the stands and shout out insults! All "kidding" aside, the logo is a let down, no doubts about it.
Scott, Tulsa - Sep 3, 2008 at 6:05 pm
Are the thunder playing in the local rec league or the NBA? Worst logo I have ever seen.
Patrick, Oklahoma City - Sep 3, 2008 at 5:59 pm
I can handle the nickname and the colors. However, being from Oklahoma and waiting so long for our first professional team, I have to say I am horribly disappointed with the logo. The logo and font of the word "Thunder" are so plain and boring it has sucked some of my initial excitement at finally having a professional sports team. I say keep the name and colors, but hopefully the fan disapproval will be so great that they go back to the drawing board for the rest.
brandon, houston - Sep 3, 2008 at 5:58 pm
They should be "Rolling Thunder" and have Thor, the god of thunder riding a Harley...
John, Oklahoma City - Sep 3, 2008 at 5:58 pm
originality is not a big issue, case in point, Oilers, Cowboys, Cardinals have all been used by a variety of cities, universities, whatever. It's just not a big deal. I do wish they had a herd of buffalo in their logo, though.
B, Geary - Sep 3, 2008 at 5:56 pm
The name Thunder is ok.... But couldn't they pay millions to come up with anything better than that logo? What is the mascot, maybe the little guy from the "Magically Delicious" cereal commercial (can't remember the name?).
Weldon, Edmond - Sep 3, 2008 at 5:54 pm
Hate to pile on. But I have to agree. The name and colors are very cool. But that has to be one of the most worst logos in sports. Its a huge downer for such a great day. But it wont stop us from supporting them.
mike, tonkawa - Sep 3, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Tulsa already has the Thunder...they're a soccer team. Couldn't OKCity be a little more original. By the way who is your favorite Thunder?
michael, lakeridge - Sep 3, 2008 at 5:49 pm
i'm pretty sure the logo is really ugly. and what's up with the colors? thunder isn't exactly a happy bright blue and orange kind of thing.
marissa, Oklahoma City - Sep 3, 2008 at 5:48 pm
I was hoping for The Thunderbirds and instead of OKC "Oklahoma" so the whole state could adopt the team. Too bad I think Oklahoma T-Birds is much cooler then OKC Thunder
michael, lakeridge - Sep 3, 2008 at 5:47 pm
That logo sucks big time. We have a huge opportunity to make a statement to the country and we roll out this garbage? Are you kidding? I think all those kids in the press conference today were actually the ones who designed this crap. Thunder is fine, the colors are fine, but the logo is an embarrassment.
Jay, Norman - Sep 3, 2008 at 5:42 pm
The team name is fine. I am ok with that, but that logo is the worst I have seen. I work in sports and there are a lot of great firms out there to do this stuff and we got a run of the mill developmental league logo. The colors are good as well, let's not miss the boat on the mascot. Make it a bison so atleast we will have a cool mascot. wow that logo is brutal!
Kevin, Waco - Sep 3, 2008 at 5:39 pm
what was wrong with barrons? the color sceme was way better
Riley, oklahom city - Sep 3, 2008 at 5:38 pm
