NORMAN — The fifth annual National Weather Festival is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the National Weather Center.
The festival features hourly weather balloon launches, weather-related demonstrations, information and products, a large area for children’s activities, and a car show that features some of the best- and worst-looking vehicles involved in storm-chasing. Car show entrants can win awards for being most unique, most cutting edge, having the most hail damage and working sensors and for best looking. The festival also will have amateur radio demonstrations and tours of the National Weather Center, the 244,000-square-foot facility that houses the University of Oklahoma’s College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Weather Partners and state weather agencies. The event is open to the public. For more information or to register for the free storm chasers’ car show, go to www.norman.noaa.gov/events/nwf09/.
