CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago's Field Museum says it's staying open on Monday despite the brutal cold, and will offer free basic admissions to Illinois residents.

Dangerously cold temperatures are forcing the Brookfield Zoo, the Shedd Aquarium and the Museum of Science and Industry to close.

Temperatures are expected to dip to minus 15 degrees overnight and hover there during the day, with wind chills of 30 to 50 degrees below zero possible.

The Chicago area was hit by 5 to 11 inches of snow Saturday and Sunday, with parts of central Illinois receiving as much as 10 inches.

Schools across the state have closed and public safety officers have warned residents to stay off the roads if possible.
