PHOENIX — University of Phoenix Stadium's roof was open for the Dallas-Arizona NFL game Saturday night.
But the Fiesta Bowl will be played with the roof closed.
Andy Bagnato, the Fiesta's director of public relations, said the OU-Connecticut game will be played indoors.
“That building is not heated,†Bagnato said. “In the desert, it can get relatively chilly.â€
University of Phoenix Stadium opened in 2006; it has hosted four Fiesta Bowls and a BCS national championship game. Bognato said the roof has been opened for only one of those five games, the Ohio State-Florida national title game in January 2007, when it was slightly opened for a fireworks display.
“Heck, I don't care,†said OU coach Bob Stoops. “Coming from up North a little ways, I'm sure the roof open would feel just fine to us.
“Connecticut, I'd imagine, would feel the same way. We'll see what all the fans want. That's usually what determines it.â€
Stoops said he and fellow Youngstown, Ohio, native Bo Pelini chatted before the Big 12 Championship Game and together wished the roof at Cowboys Stadium would be open.
“The fans felt a little chilly, so they kept it closed,†Stoops said.
