Principal photography begins this month in Oklahoma City and Guthrie for “Rudderless,” the directorial debut of actor William H. Macy.

The musical drama will star Macy along with Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, Selena Gomez, Laurence Fishburne and Felicity Huffman.

“Rudderless” stars Macy as a grieving father who stumbles across a box of his deceased son's original music and forms a band, hoping to find peace in the wake of his tragic loss.

Oklahoma City's Casey Twenter and Jeff Robison adapted the screenplay from an original story they wrote with Macy.

“We are proud of both the talent and the tenacity of Casey and Jeff,” said Jill Simpson, director of the Oklahoma Film & Music Office. “They've not only written a great script that has attracted A-list talent, including director William H. Macy, but they have worked hard to bring the film to life in Oklahoma where it is set. These elements make ‘Rudderless' the perfect project for Oklahoma's film rebate program.”

“This film was written in Oklahoma and set in Oklahoma, and we saw no reason to shoot it anywhere but Oklahoma,” Macy said in a prepared statement. “And it was lucky for us that we did, because since we started our prep here, people have been more than accommodating. They've been downright generous.”
