Benefit production planned

Carpenter Square Theatre will present “Best in Ten 2012,” an event scheduled at 8:10 p.m. Saturday at the theater, 800 W Main. Carpenter Square will pay tribute to local actress Jane Hall and former theater reviewer Bob Smith. Proceeds from “Best in Ten” will benefit the theater's building fund, along with programming for the theatre's 29th season. Theme for this year's benefit is “Little Theatre … Big Ideas!” Among the offerings are staged readings of short plays, including those from the theater's ninth annual “Ten Minute Play Contest.” Live and silent auctions are also planned. Cabaret show

Opening Thursday at the Poteet Theatre, 222 NW 15, “Cyndi ... The Story,” a cabaret show featuring Cyndi Steele-Harrod. Through song and stories, the noted actor/director will share tales about her uplifting journey with cancer, amnesia, the death of her mother, her marriage, her two amazing boys and God's eternal grace through it all. — Oklahoma Baptist University's music preparatory department will hold auditions for its three youth choirs from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Aug. 20 in OBU's Raley Chapel. Students in grades 3-7 are eligible to audition for the Shawnee Honor Choir. Art demonstration

Jan Brieschke and Brett McDanel, featured artists whose works are on view through Sept. 2 at the Paseo Originals Art Gallery, 2920 Paseo, will offer free welding and watercolor demonstrations from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 19.
