WOODWARD — Officials suspect lightning sparked a fire that caused major damage to the middle school campus in Woodward.
Monday’s fire damaged about a 60-square-foot portion of the north Woodward Middle School building. Interim Superintendent Kyle Reynolds says the fire burned above a false ceiling and sent smoke damage throughout the building.
No one was injured in the blaze.
A local newspaper reports that school leaders plan to declare an emergency for insurance purposes. Officials don’t yet know whether the building will be usable this fall for middle school students.
