An apartment fire Sunday killed two children and their mother and displaced 15 people, officials said.

Rusty Surette, spokesman for the American Red Cross of Central Oklahoma, said volunteers are providing assistance to seven families affected by the fire at the Raintree Meadows Apartments, 449 Harr Drive.

Maj. David Richardson said firefighters received a call about the fire shortly before noon Sunday. In a 911 call released Monday, the caller is yelling about a fire at the complex.

The dispatcher asks the caller to calm down, saying, “I need you to get everybody out.”

The caller said she can't get close enough and at one point tells the dispatcher that it's hard for her to breathe. Knocking on doors and yelling can be heard in the background before the dispatcher tells the caller to back away.

Richardson said smoke and flames were visible from the structure when they arrived at the scene. Inside one apartment unit, he said firefighters found an unresponsive 2-year-old boy, identified Monday as John Brown-Jones II.
