Fire Cpl. Kent Collins, 42, was putting up Christmas lights on Real Church, 11911 N Pennsylvania Ave., when the roof collapsed and he fell about 23 feet at 10:14 a.m. Friday.

He suffered a broken pelvis, several broken ribs and a broken arm, a fire department official said.

Firefighters and emergency workers responded and rushed him to OU Medical Center.

Collins was off-duty at the time of the accident.

Surgery was performed Monday on Collin’s pelvis and arm, said fire Deputy Chief Cecil Clay.

Clay said he expects Collins’ recovery will take several months.

Clay said doctors are optimistic the firefighter will make a full recovery and will be able to return to duty.
