First preseason game shows Thunder is sitting on a secret weapon

By Darnell Mayberry Published: October 10, 2008

/> And if for some reason one or more of Wednesday night’s reserves do earn a starting spot, that would leave veterans Earl Watson and Nick Collison and second-year forward Jeff Green as more than capable reserves. Kevin Durant and Chris Wilcox are almost certain to be in the starting lineup come opening night.

"We’ll change the lineup up, if not a lot, a decent amount throughout the preseason until we figure out what lineup does make the most sense,” Carlesimo said. "Sometimes certain guys play better together or certain guys can give you something coming off the bench. You like to have people coming off the bench who can do something.”

Either way, the bench unit appears to have a chance to be an unheralded asset for the Thunder.

"We’re way deeper (than people think),” said Green. "It’s going to be a big boost for us. We have guys who can come off the bench and put pressure on the opposing team. We don’t just have three guys who other teams have to focus on. We have a lot of guys that can make teams worried. So if we continue to play like we did (Wednesday night) and get a couple of more stops, we can win a lot of games this season.”
