Fishing report for week of September 13, 2009

CENTRAL

Arcadia: blue and channel catfish fair on punchbaits and shad near the Memorial Road Bridge. White bass good on rooster tails near boat ramps in the evenings. Largemouth bass are slow. Crappie fair on minnows at 10 to 18 ft. near brush piles and the heated crappie dock.

Draper: elevation normal and clear. Largemouth bass good on tandem spinnerbaits in coves on structure. Channel catfish good on stinkbaits.

Overholser: elevation rising, water clear. White bass being caught on minnows and jigs. Channel catfish being caught on cut bait and stinkbait along the banks. Crappie fishing is picking up.

Thunderbird: elevation 1/2 ft. below normal and clear. White bass good on jigs and sassy shad off points and drop offs. Saugeye good on medium diving crankbaits, jigs and sassy shad off points and humps. Crappie good on structure at 7 to 9 ft. on minnows and jigs.

Wes Watkins: elevation slightly above normal, water murky. Largemouth bass fair on spinnerbaits around timber. Channel catfish fair to good on shrimp and chicken liver. Crappie fair to good on minnows around the dam.

NORTHEAST

Bell Cow: elevation normal, water murky. Bass good on plastic worms and crankbaits. Channel catfish fair on doughbaits and cut bait. Crappie good on minnows.

Birch: elevation normal, water clear. Largemouth bass good on topwater lures early and late. Striped bass hybrids fair. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 10 to 15 ft.

Carl Blackwell: elevation normal, water 77 degrees. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs.

Chandler: elevation normal, water murky. Bass fair to good on plastic lures. Channel catfish excellent on cut bait. Crappie good on minnows.

Copan: elevation above normal, water clear. Crappie good on minnows and jigs at 6 to 8 ft. near docks and areas with submerged structure. Catfish slow on chicken liver and cut shad below the dam.

Eucha: elevation slightly above normal, water 76 degrees and dingy. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 12 to 14 ft. around brush and structure. Largemouth bass fair on topwater baits. Bluegill fair on crickets and worms around grass beds.

Grand: largemouth bass being caught on seven inch and 10-inch worms and on buzzbaits early in the mornings. White bass being caught on silver rainbow minnow jigging up on points and humps; there is some surfacing action early morning and at sunset. Catfish good on night crawlers, goldfish, and Secret-7 dip bait and on juglines with goldfish at 10 to 25 ft. Crappie being caught on Grandpa’s jigs in color numbers 47, 63, 65 and 190 around brush piles. Sunfish good on live worms and minnows around the docks.

Greenleaf: elevation normal, water clear. Largemouth bass good on spinnerbaits and crankbaits along shorelines, brush structure and creek channels. Catfish good on fresh cut bait on bottom. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around brush structure and fishing dock.

Hudson: largemouth bass good on plastic lures and small crankbaits. White bass fair to good on small dobbing lures. Crappie fair to good on minnows and jigs.

Hulah: elevation above normal, water murky. Crappie good on minnows and jigs at 8 to 10 ft. near submerged structure. Catfish fair on worms and cut shad below the dam.

Kaw: blue and channel catfish excellent on whole shad at 3 to 8 ft. in upper Coon Creek on juglines and with rod and reel. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 15 to 20 ft. under the bridges. White bass fair trolling chrome crankbaits around sandy points and humps in the main lake. Flathead catfish fair on trotlines with sunfish or goldfish.

Lower Illinois: elevation normal, water 59 degrees and murky. Largemouth bass good on topwater lures all along the river. Striped bass good on live shad at 1 to 2 ft. below Gore Landing. Channel catfish good on cut bait on bottom all along the river. Trout excellent fly fishing the surface, on rooster tails at 1 to 2 ft. and on power bait on bottom from the dam to Gore Landing.

Oologah: elevation 6 ft. above normal, water in the 70 degree area and murky. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around brush piles at 15 ft. White bass fair trolling shad colored crankbaits around main lake points at 10 to 15 ft. Blue and channel catfish fair on shad below the dam.

Skiatook: elevation 2 ft. below normal, water 70 degrees and clear. Largemouth bass fair on soft plastics at 10 to 15 ft. around brush piles. White bass and striped bass hybrids fair on live shad and drift fishing at 35 ft. and deeper. Crappie good on minnows and jigs at 8 to 15 ft. around standing timber and along creek channels.

Sooner: white bass and striped bass hybrids fair on live shad and slabs. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around brush piles.

Spavinaw: elevation slightly above normal, water 78 degrees and dingy. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around the dam area. Largemouth bass fair on spinnerbaits.

Tenkiller: elevation 2 ft. above normal and steady, water 80 degrees and clear. Largemouth bass slow on 10-inch worms at 8 to 12 ft. at dark. Catfish fair on cut shad with flip-flops at 24 to 30 ft. Sunfish good on jigs with night crawlers around docks.

Webbers Falls: elevation 2 ft. above normal, water murky. Largemouth bass fair on spinnerbaits and crankbaits in creek channels and riprap. Catfish good on fresh cut bait and sunfish on bottom. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around brush structure and bridges.

NORTHWEST

Canton: elevation 1 ft. below normal. White bass and striped bass hybrids excellent drifting shad and slabs. Channel catfish good on shad. Walleye fair trolling crankbaits and drifting slabs.

Fort Supply: elevation below normal, water clear. Channel catfish fair on stinkbait and cut bait below the dam and along the dam in the shallows.

SOUTHEAST

Arbuckle: elevation 1/2 below normal, water 80 degrees and clear on main lake, creeks stained. Crappie being caught on white marabou jigs at 12 to 17 ft. around brush piles. White bass good on rattletraps and gay blades chasing shad on main lake. Bass hitting Carolina-rigged lizards, drop-shot and crankbaits. Channel catfish hitting doughbait on baited holes.

Broken Bow: elevation normal. Largemouth and smallmouth bass good early and late. Spotted bass schooling at the surface. Crappie good on minnows and jigs around structure and the upper end of the lake.

Eufaula: elevation normal, water clear. Largemouth bass good on crankbaits in rocky areas. White bass good trolling the flats. Blue catfish good on fresh shad drifting the flats. Crappie good on minnows and jigs under bridges and standing timber.

Hugo: elevation normal. Largemouth bass good on spinnerbaits and crankbaits at 2 to 8 ft. Crappie good on minnows along the river channel.

Konawa: elevation normal, water 77 degrees and clear. Largemouth bass good on topwater lures at 5 to 10 ft. around schooling fish in mouths of coves early and late. Channel catfish good on shad at 5 to 8 ft. in south coves.

McGee Creek: elevation normal, water 78 degrees and clear. Largemouth bass good on soft plastic jerk baits at 3 to 10 ft. and on topwater lures early and late for schooling fish. Crappie good on minnows and jigs around cedar brush. Channel catfish fair on juglines with live bait.

Murray: elevation normal, water stained, especially in the north end. Largemouth and smallmouth bass good on various baits early and late. Channel catfish good on stinkbait, cut bait, shrimp and worms. Crappie being caught on minnows and jigs at 15 to 20 ft. around brush piles and habitat structures. Walleye being caught trolling.

Pine Creek: elevation normal, water clear. Bass excellent on crawfish around rocky points. Crappie good on minnows around tops. Catfish fair on shrimp and live bait.

Robert S. Kerr: elevation 1 1/2 ft. above normal, water 80 degrees and muddy. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 6 to 12 ft. around submerged brush piles. White bass fair on deep diving crankbaits trolling around the mouth of the Big San Bois Creek area. Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits and spinnerbaits at 2 to 5 ft. around grass beds. Catfish good on fresh shad, sunfish and cut bait along high flowing creeks that run into the lake and while slow drift fishing the river channels of the Big San Bois and the Arkansas River.

Sardis Lake: bass good off of points and around creek channels on spinnerbaits and plugs; also good on watermelon lizards in grass. Best at night and early morning. Crappie excellent on pink or green and black grubs around cover and on live minnows off of Jack Fork Bridge, half bridge, tower and in timber on east side of Bohanan Ridge. Flathead catfish fair on juglines or trotlines with shad, sunfish or goldfish off points close to channels. Blue and channel catfish excellent on juglines and trotlines with cut bait, shrimp or shad off points and close to channels. White bass fair trolling around islands and east side of lake by tower and excellent when found surfacing on lake. Walleye fair trolling rattletraps around islands.

Texoma: elevation 1 ft. below normal, water 80 degrees and clear. Largemouth and smallmouth bass fair to good on live bait around the creek channels. Striped and white bass fair to good on topwater baits and live bait from Catfish Bay south and west. Channel and blue catfish fair to good on worms and cut shad from the Hwy. 70 Bridge north. Crappie fair on minnows around underwater brush. Sunfish good on worms around the fish attractors and fishing docks.

Wister: elevation 1/2 ft. below normal and murky. Largemouth bass good on soft plastic worms and spinnerbaits early and late. Crappie fair with small spinnerbaits, pink jigs and minnows. Channel and blue catfish fair on juglines with cut shad and liver.

SOUTHWEST

Altus-Lugert: elevation 25 ft. below normal. Catfish good. Striped bass hybrids fair on minnows. Crappie and walleye good.

Foss: elevation 1 ft. below normal and gates closed, water low 70 degrees and clear. Walleye fair. Catfish fair. White bass fair.

Fort Cobb: elevation 2/3 ft. above normal. Catfish slow to fair on stinkbait and cut bait.
