FIU art museum hosts sculpture symposium in Miami

MIAMI (AP) — Artists, collectors and curators are gathering at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University for the "Makers & Shakers" internationals sculpture symposium.

This week's 2013 International Sculpture Symposium provides a run-up to Art Basel Miami.

Among the speakers will be sculptors Steve Tobin, Ursula von Rydingsvard and Guerra de la Paz.

The Frost museum is a Smithsonian affiliate, which opened at its current state-of-the-art location in 2008. Admission is free. The symposium will also include additional events around town. "Makers & Shakers" runs through Dec. 4 and is one of some half a dozen Art Basel satellite art fairs happening in Miami this week, including: Art Asia, Context, Aqua13, Art Wynwood and Red Dot Miami.
