Oklahoma City Energy FC hosts L.A. Galaxy II at 7 p.m. at Pribil Stadium. It’s the 24th match of the season for Energy FC, here are my Five Joules:
Michael Thomas will not play. The team captain did not practice on Friday, nursing a left foot injury and was a game time decision for Saturday. Jimmy Nielsen said he met with Thomas early on Saturday to do a fitness test and determine Thomas’ eligibility. Nielsen said Thomas wasn’t ready for action and will rest.
The playoff picture. Energy FC (8-10-5) is in eighth place in the USLPRO table with 29 standings points. Galaxy II (12-7-4) is in fourth with 40 points. A win for the home side puts Energy FC in a tie for sixth place, and just one point behind fifth-place Harrisburg. A fifth place finish would pair these to teams’ against each other in the playoffs.
Owning the series. Galaxy II has won all three matches with Energy FC this season, owning a 10-2 advantage in goals. Galaxy II won 4-2 in April and 5-0 in May, both of those matches we out west. Energy FC dropped a 1-0 decision at home in July.
Who to stop if you’re Energy FC. Chandler Hoffman, Bradford Jamieson IV and Charles Rugg are the leading goal scorers for Galaxy II. Hoffman’s 10 are tops. Rugg has seven and Jamieson six. Also watch Andre Auras, who has two goals this season but will fire from anywhere on the pitch. Rugg, Jamieson and Auras had first half goals last Saturday to lead Galaxy II to a victory over Arizona United, who topped Energy FC 2-1 on Thursday.
Nielsen on Galaxy II: “We’ve got to battle and we’ve got to compete and make it a living hell for them to come to Oklahoma. Some of them got a little big time attitude. They don’t like when you go after them. We’re going to make them frustrated. We can’t sit back and give them all the respect and be afraid of them.
