Five Joules for Energy FC’s match with Pittsburgh

* Pittsburgh is 3-9-5 this season, good for 14 points, which leaves them in 13th place in the United Soccer Leagues Pro Division. Oklahoma City Energy FC is 5-7-3. Its 18 points is good for eighth place in the league, which is the cutoff for playoff teams but that’s months away.

* Pittsburgh is led by Collins John and Jose Angulo. Both forwards have scored four goals apiece for the Riverhounds, who have won two straight. Pittsburgh has two of their three wins on the road this season with victories over Dayton and Rochester.

* “It’s poor.” Those are the two words Energy FC coach Jimmy Nielsen said about the pitch at Pribil Stadium. It is in far better condition than it was two weeks ago when Energy FC last played. A morning downpour left the grass quite soggy then, now it just looks dry and patchy. Nielsen however did add that if it’s a disadvantage, then it’s a disadvantage for both teams.

* Jimmy Medranda will start. Sporting Kansas City, Energy FC’s MLS affiliate, loaned Medranda to Energy FC on Thursday, we practiced Friday and his new teammates, as well as Nielsen had nothing but good things to say about the 20-year old Colombian. A reporter from Kansas City describes Medranda in three ways, opportunistic, very eager and willing to take a shot from anywhere, including the bench.
