Duncan (8-1) at El Reno (9-0)
→Plot: Another district title matchup. El Reno has been tough defensively, allowing seven or less points in five of its nine games so far. Duncan hasn’t been as dominant but keeps finding ways to win. The Demons won three consecutive games by three or less points.
→Starring: El Reno has one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks around in Jakeil Everheart. Cory Dauphin has also been a solid two-way player for the Indians. Duncan is led on the ground by Payton Atchley and Jordan Laskey. Atchley is also near the top of Class 5A in tackles.
→The pick: El Reno 21, Duncan 14. El Reno hasn’t been used to a four-quarter game since district play began. But the Indians will be all right as this game stays close late. Tom Cobble’s impressive job since his return to coach El Reno continues as the Indians seal up an undefeated regular season.
Mustang (7-2) at Southmoore (8-1)
→Plot: This one will also decide a district championship, settling the top of 6A-1. This one’s a little more complicated, though, as a Southmoore win wouldn’t necessarily put Mustang into the second spot. Mustang has been the standard-bearer for the West side for several years. Southmoore thinks it has what it takes to make a run at the best of the East side.
→Starring: There hasn’t been a high school football game featuring this many OU commits in recent memory. Southmoore has Julian Wilson, Austin Haywood and Kendal Thompson, who have all committed to the Sooners, along with several other highly recruited players. Mustang has an OU commit of their own in lineman Bronson Irwin. The Broncos also have two of the most electrifying playmakers in the state in David Glidden and Daniel Farrow.
→The pick: Mustang 28, Southmoore 24. Since Farrow became eligible for Mustang, the Broncos have been unstoppable offensively. They’ve scored 41 or more points in four consecutive games. The Broncos won’t score quite that many Friday night, but they won’t need to. Mustang wins the game and the 6A-1 title.
