Chased by Deer Creek defenders, Guthrie's Donte Foster takes the ball downfield during their high school football game in Guthrie on Friday, Nov. 14, 2008. By John Clanton
1:30 p.m. Saturday, S.E. Williams Stadium→Why bother: Because it’s the best matchup of the second round. Both teams come in with just one loss.
Tulsa Washington has one of the most explosive offenses in the state, having scored 59 or more points four times this season. Guthrie features one of the best defenses in the state, having recorded four shutouts and holding four other opponents to seven points or less.
→Getting there: Take Interstate 44 East to Tulsa. Take I-244 East. Take exit 4B for U.S. Highway 75 North toward Broken Arrow/Bartlesville. Exit Peoria Ave. Turn left at N. 13{+t}{+h}/Peoria. Turn right at Reading. Turn left at Rockford. Turn right at Zion.
→The pick: Tulsa Washington 21, Guthrie 17. Guthrie holds the Hornets to their lowest point production against a 5A team this season (Washington scored 14 in a loss to Broken Arrow). It’s not enough, however, as Tulsa Washington’s run defense proves too much for the Bluejays.
Other top attractions
Broken Arrow at Mustang→Plot: Undefeated Mustang gets a major test against one of the top teams from the east.
Broken Arrow (9-2) started the season with an upset win over Tulsa Union. Mustang went undefeated in the deepest district in Class 6A.
→Starring: Both teams feature excellent quarterbacks — Mustang’s Kyle Webster and Broken Arrow’s Cale Fulps. Webster has 1,610 yards passing and 789 yards rushing despite a midseason appendectomy that kept him out of two games. Fulps has nearly 1,300 yards passing and has been a steady force.
→The pick: Mustang 27, Broken Arrow 21. Both teams have been tested plenty heading into this game, but Webster and Mustang come out ahead. Coach Ty Prestidge has Mustang among the best in 6A after their struggles of a season ago. Broken Arrow has faced the state’s best teams, but it hasn’t seen an offense quite like Mustang’s.
Lawton MacArthur at Coweta→Plot: The teams started the season facing each other in Lawton. MacArthur came out ahead, winning 20-8. Coweta lost an out-of-state game two weeks later but has reeled off eight consecutive wins since. MacArthur went through a tough stretch in district play while battling injuries.
→Starring: Dillon Vaughan has more than 1,600 yards passing for Coweta. Michael Webber is his favorite target. He has 43 receptions for more than 600 yards. Lawton MacArthur is led by OU commit Javon Harris, a safety who will test Vaughan and Webber. MacArthur has one of the top offensive linemen in the state in Tulsa commit Stetson Burnett.
→The pick: Lawton MacArthur 35, Coweta 30. Both have improved since Week 1. Coweta’s offense especially has improved. But Lawton Mac is back healthy, and that makes it a Class 5A state championship contender.
Pick to click
Marco Nelson, RB, Glenpool→Faces: Wagoner, at Glenpool, Saturday
→So far: Despite missing some time with an injury early this season, Nelson is on the cusp of passing 1,000 yards as a junior. He’s averaging more than 9 yards per carry for the undefeated Warriors.
→Tonight: This isn’t the ferocious Wagoner defense we’ve gotten used to the last few seasons. They’re still good but won’t be a match for Glenpool’s offense and Nelson.

Mustang showed the Tulsa area schools (BA) aren't so tough when you get them away from their home field advantage.... Next year the OSSAA will probably cross over in the first round and play all games in the Tulsa area. East side dominance my azz, East side favoritism is more like it.
Another playoff game played in the east. I guess OSSAA thinks all playoff games should be played in the Tulsa area.....Tulsa Washington has all the advantages, but Guthrie will win this game.
Ryan Aber you're forgetting something Guthrie also has the best Quarterback/Receiver duos in the state. What makes you think that Booker T can shut that down. Guthrie will win by a touchdown or more Just watch
