FROM STAFF REPORTS Published: June 8, 2012

The Flaming Lips' latest outrageous mission — beyond making a movie in their own backyard, building their own spaceship and recording the longest-running song in history — is to break the Guinness World Records title for the most live concerts performed in 24 hours in multiple cities.

This whirlwind bus ride through the Mississippi Delta on June 27-28 will hit eight cities during the O Music Awards, a digitally driven 24-hour event that recognizes artists fans and innovators within the digital music culture.

Viacom Music Group, which includes MTV, VH1, CMT and Logo, Thursday announced the first batch of diverse artists set to open for the Lips as they zigzag through the region in a vintage tour bus dubbed “Endeavor,” attempting the break the record currently held by rapper Jay-Z.

Supporting acts will include Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Gary Clark Jr., Hunter Hayes, GIVERS, Neon Indian, Grimes, New Fumes and others to be announced, all playing full sets before The Flaming Lips arrive on the bus to take the stage for a mini-set featuring many surprise collaborations and guests, according the a Viacom press release.

Fans can view this frenzied journey during the live streaming O Music Awards show.

Tickets go on sale Friday and can be purchased through the individual venues listed on, where the entire show will be streamed live. The show will be accessible on all platforms, including mobile and tablets.

Partial proceeds from the show will be donated to VH1's Save the Music Foundation.
