A woman and her young son were confronted Wednesday night in J.L. Mitch Park by a man wearing only a black hoodie.

A bystander, Jason Souter, 45, of Edmond, said he was running at the park when he came upon the woman calling 911 after the man came out of the bushes.

“I think he was waiting to see if there was any reaction,” Souter said. “When he saw me, he pulled his khaki shorts up and I started chasing him.”

The man ran about a quarter mile then stopped to get his breath before running off into the woods, Souter said.

Police officers and K9 units searched the area, but did not find the man, Edmond police spokeswoman Jennifer Monroe said.

Police patrols have been increased in the area as a precaution, she said.

The man is described as being white and between 20 and 25 years old.

“I would have loved to catch him. But when he went into the woods, I knew the police were coming,” Souter said. “That was the last thing I expected to see.” has disabled the comments for this article.
