A fleeing suspect in a stolen pickup crashed into a pillar of the Interstate 40 bridge over northbound May Avenue this evening, killing a woman, Oklahoma City police said.

Police late tonight said they haven’t determined whether the deceased woman who was found outside the vehicle was an ejected passenger or a pedestrian.

An Oklahoma City police officer was chasing the pickup, which was reported stolen near 29th Street and Brookline. The officer terminated the chase, but the suspect continued and eventually hit the bridge.

The officer who was in pursuit just moments earlier did not see the crash, but came upon what he described as a debris cloud, said police Sgt. Paco Balderrama.

The accident occurred about 9:50 p.m.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital with severe wounds, said Balderrama. If the man lives, he likely will faces charges of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and murder in the second degree, Balderrama said.
