A painting entered in the floral category by Marge Evans won the top cash prize in the Oklahoma Art Guild’s members show, on view in Suite 21 at 50 Penn Place Mall. She won the $150 best of show award for "Flowers & More Flowers,” a watercolor that captures the interplay of yellow and purple, sunlight and shadow, with a deft, delicate touch.

Equally memorable were other works that won $50 first-place awards in various categories named after famous artists in the annual show, juried by Norman artist Mike Wimmer. Winning first place in the floral category was Annalisa Campbell for a digital color photo of "Sun Breaking Through” behind several dramatically silhouetted flowers with long stems.

Ted Majka won first place in the still life division for a small, well-handled oil of a "Red Onion and Tea Roses,” bracketing a china bowl displayed on a brightly lit surface, in front of a dark background.

Patrick Riley won first place in the three-dimensional category for a stitched and painted leather mask, decorated with yarn and strips of leather, whose wearer seems to be basking in a mythic "Golden Light.”

Lois Katsafanas takes us in for a close-up study of the head of a dog who seems to be almost smiling because "Life’s Good” in a watercolor that won first place in the "animal, fish and fowl” division.

A small but accomplished pastel sketch of a stream and distant trees, called "Into the Walnut,” by Sylvia Rogers, won first place in the show’s landscape category, which drew the most entries.

An attractive, seated, dark-skinned woman, wearing an exotic tur-quoise blouse, jewelry and a white skirt poses quietly and almost regally for Sam Echols, in "Black & Blue-Green.” It won Echols first place in the second-most popular portrait and figure division.

Red, turquoise, tan and off-white areas of color interact nicely and undergo a "Transformation” of sorts in a small oil by Gayle Curry. It won first place in the abstract, nonrepresentative category.

An understated oil of a red flower pot on the ledge of a partly open window, called "Window Dressing,” won first place for Julie McAfee in the show’s seascapes, skyscapes and architecture division.

Winning $40 second-place awards were Jude Tolar, Sue Hale, Linda Littlefield, Joe Hyden, Tom Wester, Gennie Johnson, Shirley Gibbon and Ladd Adams.

Third-place awards for $30 went to Sheila Minnich, Georgia Vaughn, Ellen Price, H.B. Zachry, Jeanne Claborn, Dea Scales, Kim Pagonis and Tom Delheimer.
