Florida notebook: Gators’ defense set on limiting Sooners
So much confidence exuded from Florida Gators players on Saturday, you’d think their defense could shave 40-plus points off Oklahoma’s typical offensive production.

Oh wait, Ryan Stamper wasn’t kidding.
The Sooners have scored 60 or more points in each of the last five games, and the Gators linebacker said his defense’s goal every week is to allow 16 points or less.
"I think we can do it,” Stamper said.
Statistics show there’s logic behind Stamper’s claim entering Thursday’s national title game in Miami. The Gators have one of the country’s best scoring defenses at 12.8 points allowed per game.
Defensive coordinator Charlie Strong understands one of the most prolific offenses in college football history will probably find ways into the end zone.
"They’re going to score some points,” Strong said. "We just can’t give up 60 points.”
Linebacker Brandon Spikes said Big 12 defenses look "a step slower” than his Gators unit. He also said the team with the best defense will win.
