Flu vaccine is available in Moore, Norman

Walk-in clinics will be held Friday at the Moore and Norman health departments for anyone wishing to get a flu shot. The Cleveland County Health Department has a new, limited supply of the vaccine.

NORMAN — The Cleveland County Health Department has received a limited supply of flu vaccine, officials said.

Walk-in clinics to administer flu vaccinations will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Moore Health Department, 424 S Eastern Ave., and the Norman Health Department, 250 12th Ave. NE.

The county health department ran out of flu vaccine about a week and a half ago. The new supply is a limited shipment, officials said.

The shot is recommended for everyone 6 months of age and older. People at high risk of serious complications from flu are strongly encouraged to get a flu shot, including pregnant women and people with asthma, diabetes, chronic heart and lung disease or other chronic conditions. Caregivers for children and the elderly, and health care workers, also are urged to get vaccinated.

Flu shots are free for families whose income is less than 185 percent of the federal poverty level; adults 65 years of age and older; children who have no health insurance or are on SoonerCare or are Indians or Alaskan natives; and children whose insurance does not cover vaccines. Other adults and children will be charged $25 for the shot.
