Head coach: Paul Beesley, sixth season.
Assistants: Rob Garver, Andy Landers, Jeff Anderson, Jerry Martin, Curtis Scruggs.
Top players: Matt Reust, QB, sr., 6-3, 190; Chad Scruggs, RB, sr., 5-11, 185; Jamison Shed, LB, sr., 5-9, 175; Jesse Wiley, LB, jr., 5-10, 175.
Outlook: Meeker was a surprise last season, getting to the second round of the playoffs. This season, it will be a surprise if the Bulldogs don't. Eleven starters are back, including Scruggs at running back. He rushed for 1,708 yards and 17 scores last year. Also returning is Shed. He had 122 tackles and is joined by Wiley (95 stops), making Meekers linebacking group impressive. The Bulldogs will challenge Seminole for district honors.
2000 record: 10-1
Head coach: Larry Henson, third season.
Assistants: Ed Lewis, Bob Holladay, Claude Foster, Richard Pratt.
Top players: Zack Clark, T-NG, sr., 6-4, 295; Lenny West, TE-LB, sr., 5-11, 220; Greg Farrell, OL, sr., 6-4, 250; Derrick Clark, RB, sr., 5-10, 175.
Outlook: Roland spent some time at No. 1 last season, entered the playoffs 10-0 and promptly got bounced in the first round. This season the Rangers will try to throw a little more, as they are deciding between two left-handers at quarterback in Travis Earnhart and Jackob Matlock. Gone is Casey Hicks, a 1,000-yard plus rusher. The Rangers have some size on the line, led by Clark at 295 pounds.
2000 record: 4-6
Head coach: Rich Jones, sixth season.
Assistants: Bill Terry, John Harvell, Archie Ryan, Brett Jones, Stacey Farney.
Top players: J.D. Pennington, WR, sr., 6-4, 175; Josh Chapman, OL, sr., 5-10, 240; Chad Acton, OL, sr., 5-10, 220; Payne Hall, QB, sr., 6-4, 195.
Outlook: The Bulldogs missed out on the playoffs a year ago, and coach Rich Jones says it was a fluke. Six starters are back on defense. The backfield, which combined for more than 1,000 yards last season, returns as well.
