NORMAN — The Norman Mardi Gras celebration is off to an early start with the Share Your Heart food drive happening now, with donations going to Cleveland County Community Action Agency’s food pantry.

How to help

• The pantry, which serves more than 100 families a month, can use canned meats and vegetables, soups and chili, pasta and sauce, cereal, and peanut butter and jelly.


• Community Action also offers assistance with rent and transitional housing, weatherization, and with prescriptions and eyeglasses.

The annual parade begins at 6:45 p.m. Feb. 13 in downtown Norman.

Nonperishable food items may be left today through Feb. 12 in the children’s department at Norman Public Library, 225 N Webster Ave. Food also may be given to volunteers with the Community Action entry during the parade or in bins along the route.

The parade begins at Santa Fe Depot on Jones Street, proceeds north to Main, then east to Crawford, south to Comanche, and then makes a second loop. Bins will be along Mina and Comanche Streets.
