The college football season kickoff begins this weekend and with it the return of the Bedlam Tailgating Showdown.
Last year, we hunted down two top-notch tailgaters — one clad in crimson and cream, the other in orange and black — to compete for tailgating glory. In Year One, the spoils went to the orange.
This year, we're ramping up our efforts and will choose two teams from the collective tailgates at both Stillwater and Norman. This will set up a final four to compete for a widescreen television, grill, $1,000 and to have your team and recipes featured in the Nov. 30 Life section.
To enter for a chance at being among those final four tailgaters, go to our Tailgating University page, online at NewsOK.com/tailgating, and fill out the simple form there. On that page, you'll also find tailgating maps, photos, videos and recipes in praise of the gospel of outdoor cooking.
On Oct. 1, I will host a tailgate in Norman along with Byford Buick GMC, American Propane, Homeland and the Oklahoma Beef Council. That day, judges will visit entrants, looking for two teams to compete for the right to cook against a team of Cowboy fans. Then on Oct. 29, we'll hold a tailgate in Stillwater, searching for Pokes fans hungry to out-tailgate the Sooners.
We're looking for great food and palpable team spirit. Bells and whistles are great, but flavor and fandom are king.
So, start exfoliating so that face paint won't ruin your complexion, test those foam fingers for holes, but most importantly, make sure those recipes are tight.
It's time to tailgate like a champion and be exalted like one.
