Oklahoma continues to set a record in the number of food-stamp recipients, with 12.8 percent of the state’s population receiving the subsidy, according to the state Department of Human Services.

In April, 13,000 people were added to the food-assistance rolls, for a total of 463,426 people.

The number of Oklahoma residents qualifying has been rising each month since March 2008, and records started being set in February.

Last month, recipients saw a 13.6 percent increase in their subsidy. The increase is from the federal economic stimulus package, and is expected to remain until September.

It bumps the average benefit from $3 a day to $3.40 a day. The maximum monthly allotment for a four-person household increased from $588 to $668.
