Football fans spike TV sales in the days before Super Bowl Sunday

Of those planning to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday, more than 7.5 million households will buy a new TV this year, a consumer survey finds.

More than 179.1 million people are expected to watch the Super Bowl, which pits the Baltimore Ravens against the San Francisco 49ers.

Total Super Bowl spending is expected to reach nearly $12.3 billion, BIGinsight found.

Most people plan to buy food and drinks to celebrate the game. According to the survey, 74 percent of game watchers will buy wings, pizza, chips, soda and more.

Also, 3.9 million will buy new furniture, 7.5 million will buy decorations, and 17 million fans say they will buy team apparel or accessories, up from 14.8 million last year.
