High schools: Cooper Bassett's younger brother Dawson commits to Oklahoma State
NOTEBOOK — Southeast basketball player DeShawn McDowell is recovering after a fall against Douglass.
Former Oklahoma State defensive end Cooper Bassett hinted — or hoped — on Twitter Tuesday that Tyus Bowser's abrupt decommitment from the Cowboys would open up a last-minute scholarship for his younger brother, Dawson.

Big bro got his wish.
Dawson Bassett, a Tuttle product, got an offer from OSU coach Mike Gundy on Wednesday and committed to the Cowboys, Tuttle coach Phil Koons said.
Dawson, OSU's first in-state commitment in the 2013 class, sports a 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame with good speed and athletic ability.
“He's one of the best players we've had in my time here,” Koons said. “He's a great athlete and he's been a great player for us. He'll do well up there. He's really excited about it.”
Koons was unsure which side of the ball the Cowboys project the younger Bassett to play. He could be a linebacker or a receiving tight end, similar to what the Cowboys did with Blake Jackson this past season.
As a linebacker and receiver at Tuttle, Bassett finished with 106 tackles, six interceptions and four sacks, along with 780 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns on just 32 catches.
Missouri had begun to show strong interest in Bassett recently, and Koons felt an offer might be coming. But OSU jumped in first, landing the second player from a passionate OSU family.
SOUTHEAST'S MCDOWELL RECOVERING WELL
After a scary night Tuesday, Southeast basketball player Deshawn McDowell regained feeling in his legs and is recovering well following an injury during a game against Douglass, Southeast coach Walt Brewer said Wednesday.
With three minutes remaining, McDowell tripped as he drove through the lane, stumbling to the floor beneath the basket, unable to move his lower body. He lay there for nearly 20 minutes awaiting a stretcher, and was taken to the hospital wearing a neck brace.
There was no spinal injury, and the exact cause of his loss of feeling couldn't be pinpointed, but doctors believed his body might have overheated and gone into shock when he fell to the court.
McDowell spent the night in the hospital, receiving intravenous fluids, and the feeling returned overnight. He is expected to return to action for third-ranked Class 5A Southeast after a couple days of rest.
UHLES COMMITS TO PITT STATE
Norman North linebacker Jaxon Uhles committed to Pittsburg State on Tuesday.
Uhles helped the Timberwolves to the Class 6A state title game as a senior.
He had 163 tackles and four sacks on defense while scoring six touchdowns in the Timberwolves' “U-Haul” package in short-yardage situations with Uhles at quarterback.
Uhles was named to The Oklahoman's Big All-City first team and was a second-team All-State selection.
