— Two aspects of Dr. Sherri Tucker's life have become one with time.

In medical school, although Tucker “knew Jesus,” she said she became “wise in my own eyes and I saw no place for faith and medicine to interact.”

“This has been a slow, steady process since training,” Tucker said. “It felt like two compartmentalized areas of my life. As I got out of training and began walking with families through life, and experiencing my own life and all the suffering, the knowledge of medicine was not nearly big enough.

“I began asking my patients in my private practice if I could pray for them at the end of an office visit. Easily 98 percent said, ‘Yes.' Sometimes this aspect of the visit would stretch on as the patient and I would ponder the truths of God in sickness, in family relationships and in death. I watched God meet the patient's needs physically, emotionally and spiritually.”

Today, Tucker is the medical director at Ministries of Jesus in Edmond.

Tucker specializes in family medicine. Until 2009, she had been affiliated with Mercy Health Network in Edmond and had been volunteering with Ministries of Jesus since its beginning in 2001.

But in 2009, Tucker sensed God had a different path for her medical vocation. That's when she decided to leave her full-time practice to volunteer on a more regular basis at Ministries of Jesus.

This ministry began “at the initiative of leaders at Henderson Hills Baptist Church who felt compelled by God to begin a free medical and counseling clinic for patients who could seek treatment for their whole being,” Tucker said.

She said the ministry is for people who may feel that they have been forgotten or overlooked because they have no insurance or other means by which to obtain medical treatment.

“The mission of Ministries of Jesus is to lead people to Jesus Christ by caring for their spiritual, physical and emotional needs so they can live their lives to glorify God,” Tucker said.
