Welcome, holiday shoppers, to Part 2 of our gift guide to the coolest movies, TV shows and music available on DVD, CD and even good old-fashioned LP vinyl this holiday season.

Films on DVD
What could be cooler and more seasonally appropriate than "The Polar Express Presented in 3-D,” complete with four sets of 3-D glasses so the whole family can feel like they’re really taking that wondrous computer-animated Christmas Eve train ride to the North Pole with the doubting young boy who discovers the magic life has to offer.

Meanwhile, a darker strain of holiday magic comes into play in "The Nightmare Before Christmas 2-Disc Collector’s Edition with a bored Halloween Town pumpkin king Jack Skellington trying to liven up things by donning a "Sandy Claws” hat and beard, and taking over St. Nick’s job — with disastrous results. Extras include a Tim Burton poem read by Christopher Lee, a backstage tour of Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion ride, a new introduction by Burton, and a brilliant remastering of this stop-action animation classic.

For more adult holiday refreshment, there’s the Martini Movies series from Sony, featuring the U.S. DVD debuts of "The New Centurions,” director Richard Fleischer ’s 1972 adaptation of Joseph Wambaugh ’s novel about rookie cops in Los Angeles learning hard truths about law enforcement, starring George C. Scott and Stacy Keach; Sidney Lumet ’s 1971 thriller "The Anderson Tapes,” with Sean Connery as an ex-con whose carefully planned apartment house heist is thwarted by high-tech surveillance devices at every turn; Richard Brooks’ darkly comedic 1971 caper thriller "$ (Dollars),” with Warren Beatty and Goldie Hawn as a con man and a prostitute trying to pull off a bank robbery in Hamburg, crossing some serious mobsters in the process; and Vincent Sherman’s 1952 romantic thriller "Affair in Trinidad about a cafe singer (Rita Hayworth) and her brother-in-law (Glenn Ford) out to catch her husband’s killer.
