Former Brazil captain Lucio joins Palmeiras

SAO PAULO (AP) — Former Brazil defender Lucio, who was part of the country's World Cup-winning team in 2002, signed Thursday for Brazilian club Palmeiras.

The 35-year-old Lucio also played with the national team in 2006 and was the captain in 2010.

Palmeiras, which just returned to Brazil's first division, said he signed through 2015.

Lucio played in Europe with Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Inter Milan. In joining Palmeiras, he hooks up with one of the country's most popular teams.
